DANCEHALL CLASS BRUSSELS – SEASON 2015/16

New Season, 4th season of Dextyle Dancehall Class and the energy is always UP – We say “GET THERE”, as Jamaicans in Kingston, DON’T WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR.

We’ve already had international Dancehall workshops with Kate Baba, Sir Ledgen and Blacka Di Danca. A new big artist is coming for February, plus a lot of surprises for you.. as usual for those who knows me since I arrived here in Belgium.

REGULAR CLASS

Sunday, 3 PM – 4 PM @ Danse Pulsion School (Brussels): OPEN LEVEL – Starting from January,17th (every Sunday).

SPECIAL WORKSHOP

Sunday, 11.30AM – 12.30PM @ K-Danse (Colfontaine): OPEN LEVEL – Improvements of Dancehall skills, steps, technique (1 per month – Info with the person linked).
Sunday, TBD @ De ingang (Ghent): OPEN LEVEL – Discovering and practicing Dancehall from the basics to the New School (1 per month – Info with the person linked).

PRIVATE CLASS/TRAINING/SPECIAL EVENT

SCANDALIZE CREW WORKSHOP – Brussels (Belgium)

First time ever for this crew all together in one city for a master event like this.
Second great event organized by Joana Kabongo (Move Zone), Talina Jager (Move Zone) and Decio Bernardo (Dextyle) for all Dancehall dance lovers.

We are all so proud of you because the workshop has been declared FULL with almost 2 weeks in advance. Sonia Soupha – Dance workshop in Brussels

A 3 hours workshop with the great dancer from Paris Sonia Soupha, that was the event that it has been organized by Joana Kabongo, Talina Jager and Decio Bernardo last December 21th (2014) in Brussels.

New Season started in October, third season of Dextyle Dancehall Class and the energy is already “up and running”, as Jamaicans say in Kingston.

We’ve already had our first international workshop (with Dafne Bianchi) and there are other two Big Events coming soon, that you don’t want to miss.

It’s Dancehall Time: Dafne Bianchi

New season is starting in these days, soon info about my regular classes and my projects related, as you already know, to Dancehall.
We finished last Season with a Big and Huge double workshop with the Dancehall Queen Mad Michelle and Shelly Belly, one of the best Dancehall dancer ever. Who was there didn’t forget a second of those 5 hours spent in a Jamaican way.

Last Season 2013-2014 for Brussels, Dextyle organized a lot of important workshops to give you the opportunity to know, to understand and to study what this Cultural Dance is and how it’s evolving nowadays, starting from its basics.

Just to remember what we did:

– Sri Lanka (Rifical Team, Jamaica): first Jamaican dancer ever teaching a workshop in Belgium;

– Blacka Di Danca (New York): first workshop ever in Belgium during his World Tour;

– Sir Ledgen (New York): first class ever in Belgium;

– DHQ Mad Michelle (Jamaica): first Dancehall Queen teaching a workshop in Belgium;

– Shelly Belly (Jamaica): first workshop in Belgium in his first Tour ever.

..plus some other dancers from Italy, France, Poland.

Only with a list like this it’s possible to understand why you are all sending messages (almost everyday) to receive news/updates about this Season; no pause is allowed apparently, but if you receive this ENERGY and you are so HUNGRY to know more and to dance more, for sure I can think that it’s also my fault.

IT’S DANCEHALL TIME

“It’s Dancehall Time” will be the name of the project, it consists in a series of workshops (basically like we did last year) related to Dancehall and its actors in Europe and in the World.

The most talented female Italian dancer, professional dancer and teacher with a lot of experience in Dancehall and urban dance style. Moreover she’s a kind of little sister for me, part of my family and she can’t wait to be again in Belgium, let’s give her a very warm WELCOME BACK!

Chronixx, Ziggy Marley – Jamaican feelings in Brussels

Are you already feeling in Summertime?
Are you planning to spend next days in the Belgian European International capital city?

Maybe what you can find it’s not only Europe. Caribbean vibes are coming and Jamaicans too.
For all the Reggae lovers there are two important events to don’t miss, the history and the new are playing in Brussels next week, here all the info.

Obviously I will be there for both, but concerts are way better with friends.

Chronixx – the Dread & Terrible

Sunday, 13th of April

A little star among his peers, he had shown a love for music and song writing from an early age. Chronixx was the ‘stage’ name his friends bestowed on him, replacing the name ‘Little Chronicle’ he was given as the ‘junior’ to his father, the artist Chronicle. Chronixx credits his versatility and his professional stage presence to the early lessons he received from his father Chronicle, who always shared his own experiences and encouraged his son to go one step beyond with each performance. Chronixx’ new album “Dead & Terrible Project” is available since April, 1st and it will be the name of his tour.
Concert @ VK*, doors open at 7.30PM. Opening by DRE ISLAND (Jam) and KELISSA (Jam).

Ziggy Marley – the son of Reggae

Tuesday, 15th of April

Son of the Legend, son of the Reggae, and legend itself. Leader of its band “Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers“, he will perform @ Ancienne Belgique, doors open at 8PM.

Jamaican Dancehall has become known to be a rough and immensely catchy street style of reggae “riddims”.
It’s the center of the Jamaican ghetto youth’s world, a place for enjoyment, cultural expression, survival and spiritual renewal.

Dancehall is culture, steps, technique and.. most of all.. Attitude and Feeling.

Come and study with us OLD SCHOOL, MIDDLE SCHOOL and NEW SCHOOL steps, Dancehall history and Jamaican music history; you will receive knowledge about dancers, sound systems, singers and information about Jamaican society and life style.

You will learn steps such as:

“get jiggy”, “wacky dip”, “bogle”, “ova di wall”, “thunderclap”, “call down the rain”, “nuh linga”, “heel n toe”, “give dem a run”, “air force”;

till steps like:

“Confusions” by Alan Ayckbourn

Although written and set in the 1970s, Confusions by Alan Ayckbourn is still as relevant today as it was then. In five interconnected plays, it confronts us with a series of everyday situations using comedy and farce. These situations may be common enough in their nature, yet are made extraordinary by the failed interactions between the characters.

Be it a mother obsessed with her children, a lonely husband, an estranged couple, an entire village or a group of strangers – the characters of this play hold up a farcical mirror to society and make us question our own interactions.

The ability, or lack thereof, to communicate efficiently with each other leaves the characters trapped in a lonely and confusing world, wrapped up in their own obsessions and dreams. Confusions is an examination of human interaction. Humorous and at times dark, lively and diverse, this play will make you laugh, think, and maybe even cry. Certainly not to be missed!
